I believe this happens to be one of the most exciting miracles in the Bible. This passage has so many applications that I could write pages, but I will keep it short and sweet. This story in these two verses begins with Jesus speaking to a dead man. He says to Lazarus, who has been dead for 4 days, “come forth.” In other words, come out of the grave. Wow! Now, this was a perfect opportunity for the Pharisees and the religious crowd to prove Jesus was a heretic and have him killed, but as you will see, things happen when Jesus speaks! The next thing we see is Lazarus coming back from the dead to the land of the living. If the truth be known, he left the land of the living to come back to the dead, but that’s a different message for a different day. I find this miracle so exciting because it reminds me that Jesus can speak life to any situation. He specializes in tough miracles. No matter how bad your situation or problem is Jesus is still the miracle worker. He has the power to change the circumstances. Whether that situation is a marriage on life support, a waning relationship with a wayward son or daughter, or a financial crash, if Jesus can bring a dead man back to life after 4 days, he can help you in your situation. The questions is will you trust Him with it? I love that Lazarus came out of the grave with grave clothes still on. Jesus could have had them automatically fall off when he called him forth but he didn’t. He waited till he was out of the grave to say, “loose him, and let him go.” Jesus follows this pattern in our lives today. He first saves us then cleans us up. We first go from death to life (being born again) and then he works on our issues, hang-ups, etc. Let Him work in your life today; He will not let you down!
