".....but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." 2 Corinthians 10:12
Comparing others to you and then finding fault is one of the easiest things to do in life. It really takes no skill. All that is needed is a critical spirit and an arrogant attitude. The....."I've never done it that way" people are experts at this. In fact, these people are the snipers of the Christian Faith. They can shoot anyone down with precise hits. To think outside the small box they live in is a crime and a sin. Interesting to me was that Jesus was also snippered by the religious folks of His day. His ways were contrary to the ways of the religious folk of his day and as a result, they off'd him (killed him). However, had the Pharisees read Scripture, they would have recognized Him as the Savior of the world. Many times we find fault with someone because they do things differently than we do, yet never asking ourselves whether they are violating Scripture or not. It is the Scripture and not us that is the standard. But you say, "what about our church's tradition?" The appropriate question is, are they violating Scripture? We are not to compare ourselves among ourselves; we are to compare ourselves to the Bible. I grew up believing that the people who didn't attend the church I attended were wrong; however, looking back, my premise was wrong. I judged others by the church and family traditions I was taught rather than the Bible. In the end, God will not judge us by our Church or others but by His Holy Word. What is your standard of truth ~ what you grew up in because you grew up in that religion or the Bible? Scripture is to be our standard and not our traditons.
