What Are You Seeking?

"But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."  Matthew 6:33

Wow!  Talk about a tall order.  It is so easy for us as Christians living in a material world to  invert this Bible verse.  We tend to put "things" first and God second.  In fact, we go as far as to equate material wealth with spiritual maturity, yet nothing could be more ludicrous.  Let me explain; Jesus had no material wealth to speak of.  Moreover, he was buried in a borrowed tomb.  His disciples gave up their worldly goods to follow Him.  Luke was a Doctor and Peter was a businessman owning his own fishing company, yet Jesus was more important to them than worldly goods.  Would you consider this line up as spiritually bankrupt?  Of course not.  Also, there are tons of folks who have this world's goods who are not Spiritual Giants.  This list includes drug dealers, prostitutes, corrupt politicians, dictators, etc.  NOW, before you think I'm against the rich, I am not.  I believe neither riches nor poverty determine the level  of your love for God, but rather your determination to follow the above verse.  Do you give God in His proper place?  If you are wealthy, does He come first and then your "things"?  If you are poor, does he come first and then your desire for those riches?  God is not against riches, but he is against being second fiddle or somebody's Magic Jeannie.  He is against us uplifting what we have instead of who we have (Him).  Truth be known, He has us but does he have our heart?
