To Love Pleasure is to Accept Poverty

“He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man…..” Proverbs 21:17

Just yesterday I read about Antoine Walker, a former Celtics star, who made more than $110 million dollars in his 12 year career. Amazingly, at the age of 33, Mr. Walker is broke and owes his creditors more that $4 million dollars. In addition, he faces felony charges for check fraud. I believe the Bible stands true when it say, “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man….” Mr. Walker’s insatiable desire for the finer things of life brought him down. There are literally hundreds of stories just like Mr. Walker’s throughout the world. Unfortunately, you don’t have to have millions to fall into the same trap. The Bible never said you had to be rich; it said you had to love pleasure to be a recipient of the consequence. You see, when you live for the love of pleasure you will reap the consequence of poverty. Oh, you may look OK on the outside; nice cars, house, things, etc. However, the unending bills would tell another story. Don’t ever bet against the Bible, you’ll lose everytime. Do you want to avoid the certain pitfalls of loving pleasure, turn from your desire for pleasure and like the men of old, live for right because it’s right. Make decision based on sound wisdom and not on the love of pleasure.  Warren Buffet, one of the top 5 richest men in the world, bought his first house for 30 thousand dollars. He still lives in that house. Why is he worth nearly a billion dollars? Simple answer, because he is not in love with pleasure, and he makes sound decisions.   He has his emotions in check. Decide today whether you will stand with the Bible which is time tested or with the temptations which tell you, “just do it, you’ll situation will turn out different; after all, you are special.”
