Love is Better Than Selfishness

Love is not a feeling to be felt but an action to be learned. - Unknown
Most relationships break up because one or both in the relationship have more love for themselves than the other person. “It's all about me” attitude. However, that premise is all wrong. Let me get Biblical for a minute; I go back to the Bible because there exists no other manual written for the human race as old and reliable as the Bible not to mention that it is divinely inspired. No where in the Bible are we commanded to love ourselves; that's a given; we don’t have to be told to do that. We are however commanded to love our neighbor as ourselves. The Bible also teaches that love worketh no ill. In other words, when you love your neighbor (spouse, friend, etc.) like we are commanded to, you won't hurt them. In fact God considers the act of love so great that he says, “love is the fulfilling of the law.” Wow! Let me explain: There are all kinds of biblical laws but the laws that pertain to human interaction are meant to protect each individual life. Everyone is important to God. And God says when you love it’s like you have fulfilled those laws. A friend recently told me of his wife’s infidelity. He said he tried to work it out but as the days went by he found more damaging information and she also continued communication with the other person. Eventually they separated and it’s been a year. She has since realized that life is not greener on the other side. She found out the other person is human too with human flaws like everyone else. I said all that to say this, had she just loved her husband more than herself like the Bible commands, she wouldn’t have destroyed her husband, kids and eventually herself. You will never be happy living an "it's all about me" life. No one will ever satisfy.
